Short answer: if you only stay on the Strip, you can often skip a rental car. If you plan day trips such as Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire or the Hoover Dam area, a car gives you the most freedom.

Rent a car if

• You want to visit places outside the Strip in one or two days
• You are traveling with a group, so the cost is shared
• You are staying off-Strip or at a property that is far from the main attractions

Skip the car if

• You are staying on the Strip and mostly walking between resorts
• You can book one guided day tour instead for a big outing

Watch out for extra costs

1. Many Strip hotels charge parking or resort fees. Check before you book.
2. Compare airport pickup and off-airport locations, including shuttle time.
3. Read the cancellation and insurance terms.
